It only takes a few minutes watching or reading the news to feel the throws of depression. This world is a sick, twisted place. How are we, as Christians, to live with hope in a world that is so utterly broken?
Yet Psalm 62 reads, “Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from Him.” How the world needs people whose hope comes from outside of this mangled place. As Christians, we can stare tragedy in the face, and know with blessed assurance that Jesus Christ lived, died, and lives to enact justice. As Americans, particularly Americans from the Bible Belt, we balk at the idea of God reigning with justice. “How could a loving God send anyone to hell?” How could he not?
Christ’s followers are the only ones in this world that can simultaneously weep with mourning, and shout for joy at what this world is coming to. An end. A glorious end where the true, faithful, and righteous Jesus holds the keys of death and Hades (Rev 1:18), not people. Hallelujiah.
