Remember our dog, Cooper?
|make sure they can’t see my junk, mom.|
As sweet as he looks in most pictures, he’s a menace on a walk. For the last nine months, Patrick and I have been doing everything in our power to teach this animal how to “heel,” which–we’ve learned–is just about impossible.
We’ve tried the harness, we’ve gone to obedience school, and we’ve even committed NEVER to take a step forward until Cooper is by our side. The result?
Cooper pulls us all over the place. When we stop, he backs up. When we start walking again? He pulls again. It’s never ending. And if you’ve forgotten… I’m training for a half marathon. I can’t be fighting with a Viszla while trying to run five miles. I was perpetually losing my cool on each and every run I’ve taken him on.
UNTIL YESTERDAY. That’s right. Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you to my new best friend, The Gentle Leader.
I ran 5 miles yesterday and I didn’t fight with Cooper one bit. (I know, that was a humble brag, or maybe just a normal brag) This thing is genius.
Hallelujah. Let the half-marathon training continue.
P.S. Viszlas are everywhere!
